Trusting Your Gut Instinct

Trusting Your Gut

Flashback Friday to 2015

My business partner (now husband) and I were in LA recording a few episodes for our podcast with new guests. We had just surpassed 2 million downloads on our show a few months earlier and were trying to figure out what to do with the show and our business model.

This was my first real venture into working for myself and owning a business. The lessons were tough but the landscape we were painting for ourselves was exciting because podcasting wasn’t a “thing” yet. We were on the front side of what is now a huge business for many many people, and we were doing extremely well considering we were two unknowns from Vegas.

I vividly remember having hundreds of people throw their opinion at me about what we “should” do and how we “needed to scale the business” a certain way. We had thousands of fans and other podcasters reaching out to congratulate us and then share their unsolicited opinions with us. I had never experienced the pull from so many people who had opinions about my life and business, and was honestly spinning and stressed out with all the opinions and options in front of us. Analysis paralysis!

The Moment it Clicked

There was a moment during this trip when something snapped. We finally put earmuffs and blinders on to silence the world and focus on OUR intuition and ideas. It wasn’t easy shutting the options and opinions of others off but, it was a vitally important moment when we finally did.

The natural gut instinct is something that we are born with but are often taught to ignore as we grow up.

It’s the most powerful gift from the universe that we are given and so many of us don’t even realize that we have it.

We finally put our foot down and made some big boy/big girl decisions about our show and business. It wasn’t easy. It was REALLY scary. But, we had to step away from everyone else projecting their expectations and dreams onto our show and finally be honest about what we wanted out of our little experiment.

Trust Yourself First

If you have a dream, a business, a job, a goal, a life that you find clouded with other people’s opinions and expectations, put earmuffs and blinders ON! TRUST your gut and decide for yourself!
